Critical Limb Ischemia

What is Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI)?
CLI refers to an advanced stage of PAD, in which there is a severe blockage of the arteries.

This severe blockage leads to markedly reduced blood flow, increasing the risk for heart complications. It is also a strong indicator that the limb is in danger of being amputated and immediate action must be taken to correct the issue.
What is Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD)?
Immediate action needs to take place. Consult your physician and have a diagnostic test taken to assess the severity of the blockage. More likely than not, a procedure will be required to unclog the blockage that’s caused by the plaque buildup. This is a time-sensitive issue, and CLI has a high mortality rate. Amputation is often the next step if no action is taken, so make sure to consult a vascular physician as quickly as possible.
